139: Spring Onion - Would It Make A Difference (ft. Friendship)

We were big champions and supreme lovers of Spring Onion's 2018 collection, I Did My Taxes For Free Online. It seems almost unfathomable that it's been 7 years since that release, but finally, thankfully, held with the same sense of grace and charm, Catherine Dwyer returns this year with a brand new album on the endlessly endearing Anything Bagel label.
Having played in the likes of Remember Sports, 2nd Grade, and 22º Halo, and with the new single featuring Friendship's Dan Wriggins, Peter Gill, Michael Cormier-O’Leary and Jon Samuels, you can neatly pigeon-hole Dwyer's work, but the compelling nature of her work has always crept in through the intangible; her nuanced way with the words, the spaces where things are left unsaid.
'Would It Make A Difference' is a quintessential two-and-a-half minutes, a somewhat hushed sigh that seems to peel back new layers with each play, that gnaws a little deeper every time. Dwyer's voice is always endearing and here it sits side by side with Wriggin's gnarlier drawl, a light n dark, sweet n sour combination that gently shifts the shape of the day around it.
It's the second single from the forthcoming Seated Figure LP; fast approaching, and available to pre-order via Bandcamp. Listen to the new single below; it's a real gem.
