081: searows - martingale

If you listened to searows' debut album Guard Dog, then you already know what to expect from this one. If you didn't listen to Guard Dog, then carve some time out of your day to do so immediately, it's one of the finest lofi singer-songwriter album's of the last few years, haunting and pretty in equal measure.

The solo project of Alec Duckart, searows returns this week with a brand new standalone single, released as a warm-up to a long run of UK/EU shows that takes place next month (find the full run of dates below).

As plaintive and confessional as we've come to expect, new song .martindale' finds Duckart in suitably affecting voice, the immediacy of the emotive weight landing its grip on you from the outset, never relinquishing. Indeed, Duckart's ability to derive such a feeling of intense emotion from such basic tools of voice and melody remains as something quite remarkable, something inherently magical.

And this is full of magic once more, no matter the force of sadness that underpins it, no matter the shadow it comes buried within.
