095: Samantha Crain - Dragonfly
Samantha Crain, the Choctaw Nation singer-songwriter, has been releasing wonderful music for some 15-odd years now. Consistently delivering songs and albums that gently leave an impression over time, a faded piece of wallpaper where a picture used to hang, her work can be both dizzying and dark, melancholy and untethered.
Hopefully a pre-cursor to a larger body of new work, Crain released new song 'Dragonfly' last week, her first proper release since 2021 having worked on the score for recent, beautiful new Lily Gladstone movie Fancy Dance.
Dragonfly, like all of her work, is rich and compelling, an infectious burst of guitar-pop that fizzes and flashes - and hopefully acts as a precursor of new things on the horizon.
I only wanna be free at last
Live to see where I arrive at
I skim across the water tops
Depending on how the light falls
The angles and the aerosols
All hues are seen within me
Dragonfly
Life is a gift to enjoy
Don’t want think about myself anymore
I see all the way around my head
Who is the control perception?
If everything is false impression?
I won’t let my mind clip my wings
I don’t know what you get from all your bite
I try to leave mine behind
Dragonfly
