If yesterday was a day for escaping, for spending drawn-out time with old voices in old songs, today was the opposite; a small moment spent amid the rush of the real world, a momentary glimpse into another world.

But a world, nevertheless, full of languid summer feelings, of the last lingering throes of love lost amid the smell of fresh cut grass, of curtains moving gently in the warm breeze.

Armed with the kind of voice that could make distracted mumblings sound full of romantic wistfulness, Rowena recently released Senseless Acts of Beauty, a ten-song collection on Daliance Recordings and Beloved Recordings. Hailing from Melbourne, Wise cut her teeth in a family band, alongside her folk-musican mother and her father, who builds the custom guitars she plays today.

If such a story carries an air of old-fashioned sentimentality, then it's reflected in Rowena's beautifully elegant brand of folk, a rich mahogany-sheen personified in the absorbing video for 'Indifferent', streaming below.

If we meet again one day
I will be indifferent and you’ll be the same

As intriguing as her backstory is, it would all fall to dust if the songs weren't equally compelling on their own terms, but such is the grace with she delivers them that all the surrounding noise simply falls by the wayside. Lovelorn and simmering with regret, 'Indifferent' is a classic ballad in colour and shape; a four-minute space to inhabit away from the rush of the world.
