102: Porridge Radio - God Of Everything Else
I remember thinking, when I first saw Porridge Radio play live, in a sweaty Lexington on a crisp cold London night, that they were probably the best "band" that the UK had to offer. And I mean band in that slightly redundant, old fashioned sense; a tight-knit group of people who smash a few instruments together and, somehow, make magic happen.
This was pre-pandemic - and I've never seen them play live again since. Sometimes there's no reason to why certain passions slip by the wayside, and that's certainly the case here, but something in the ether made me blast their new single today, and, well...
'God Of Everything Else' is a raw, raucous triumph, a grand swell of emotions pulled from a place that is overwhelmingly personal but carries enough warmth in its beating heart to feel like it really, really matters.
An unflinching grasp toward catharsis in the wake of relationship, Dana Margolin's voice is simmering and bristled with anger - and there's no desire to hide it. As the guitars build, strings swirl, temperature rises, the whole thing unfolds on the very cusp of implosion. It's a wild, untamed, and sometimes uneasy listen - and all the better for it.
Their new album, Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, is out tomorrow - listen to the track below in preparation.
