051: Nightshift - Sure Look (3/6/5 Premiere)
After a small shuffle of members, Glasgow's Nightshift are gearing up for the release of third album, Homosapien - their first in three years - which arrives at the end of July via the Trouble In Mind label.
Having already heard a couple of cuts from it, the band today release latest single 'Sure Look' and it's another, umm, sure look at the giddy excellence of their latest work. Where plenty of the songs on forthcoming LP deal with the current state of the world, 'Sure Look' is a more personal offering, Eothen Stern scattering her vocals across the track like a heavy-chested nod to Life Without Buildings.
Of the track, Eothen says:
A love letter to yourself to take care of yourself but also a hopefully moment of calm. I believe the words came into my mind inspired by my current partner's use of the phrase. It's kind of untangling and calm.
A sub-three minute gem, the track floats along on a repetitive groove before it takes a graceful turn with the addition of some gorgeous fiddle, courtesy of friend and colleague Ray Aggs of Shopping / R.AGGS, making good on the album's promise of being "packed with hooks big and small woven through a tapestry of rhythm-forward song poems."
A further appetite-whetter ahead of the full album release, you can check out the new song below right now and grab pre-order the record via Bandcamp.
