116: Lomelda + More Eaze - In Another Life
There's so much to the incredible, incredibly sprawling new TRAИƧA compilation that we'll leave it to the organisation who pieced it together to tell the full story:
Storied activist and music production non-profit Red Hot presents its latest project, TRAИƧA out November 22nd. With production beginning in 2021, and over 100 artists contributing, TRAИƧA marks one of the most ambitious projects ever undertaken by Red Hot - a spiritual journey across 8 chapters and 46 songs, spotlighting the gifts of many of the most daring, imaginative trans and non-binary artists working today. It softens the edges of the world we know, and invokes powerful dreams of the futures that might one day thunder from its cracks. The album's instantly memorable cover speaks to the tension between nature and constructed environments, and the tension of transness in the western gender binary.
Available as a 6-LP boxset, as well as its more accessible digital counterpart, the 46-song collection is a fascinating snapshot, bringing together so many beautiful and varied minds and sounds and moods, in a way that feels wholly inspiring. And so we have bold, beautiful collabs between Jeff Tweedy and claire rousay, Hand Habits and Bill Callahan, Moses Sumney and ANOHNI, Perfume Genius and LOW's Alan Sparhawk, as well as work from the likes of Cassandra Jenkins, Adrianne Lenker, Gia Margaret and so many more of our favourite artists. A precious thing indeed.
You could close your eyes and throw a dart at the tracklist to find a stand-out but hearing new work from Lomelda is always such a small joy in this unstable world and so here we are. 'In Another Life' is a collaboration between Hannah Read and mari maurice's More Eaze project. The result is a burst of skewed colour, a smudged world of shapes that feel both at once familiar and confounding.
A striking moment, from a truly momentous piece of work, you can find out more and order the compilation in its various forms - a treasure trove of magic - over on the Bandcamp page now.
