076: (3/6/5 Premiere) Levi Minson - The Shadow
The excellent Montana label Anything Bagel have built an impressive roster of releases, focusing on warm and scuzzy DIY sounds, usually sent out into the world via a limited-run of screen-printed cassettes.
Their latest effort comes courtesy of singer-songwriter Levi Minson who announces a brand new record today alongside the album's lead track 'The Shadow'. It's lifted from a new 10-song release, called Violet Speedway, which finds the Sacramento, California, artist peeling back the gloopy layers of hope, loss, fear and love.
Suitably and endearingly lofi, Minson's sound is covered by a layer of dust, nostalgic photographs half-hidden by flecks of fallen dirt and the cruel passing of time. There are hints of contemporaries such as Greg Mendez and the more heartworn side MJ Lenderman however, recorded on a Tascam four-track over the course of two weeks, in the bedroom of the town he calls home, Violet Speedway could - and certainly does - feel pulled solely from the heart of mind of Minson.
Premiering below, 'The Shadow' is the perfect setup for what lies beyond; a heavy-hearted lament written down on a page, then folded up and pushed inside the crack of a wall his fingers know each and every inch of. A place beyond the reach of sun beams.
