Introducing Sand Duney (GFP premiere)

Today, we're very pleased to introduce brand new material from Sand Duney, the solo project of songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jess Jones (Dear Nora, Jessica Dennison + Jones, Hot Gum, Cynthia Nelson Band).

Alongside a brand new single – which is streaming below for you – comes the news that Jones will release Plant Material, the first full-length Sand Duney album, on September 4th via the collective hands of Anything Bagel, Bud Tapes, and Orindal Records. Recorded both at home, in Portland, Oregon, and further afield in Montana, Jones played every instrument on the record, including pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, bass, organ, and drums.

Plant Material arrives as the follow-up to Sand Duney’s debut EP, The Julia Loop, a three-song introduction that was released back in 2021. That same year, Jones went back to school to study landscape design and sustainable gardening, and much of that learning is woven into the songs that make-up the forthcoming new album.

The warm, buoyant lead single 'Saw You in the Roses' covers such ground fleetingly: "Saw you in the roses looking for me / Saw you with the eyes of someone you love," Jones sings, as drums thump and gleaming indie-pop guitars glisten under bright sunlight. All wrapped-up in a little over two-minutes, it's a woozy and enigmatic introduction; one that wraps up a host of differing ideas and genres into something short, sharp and effortlessly radiant.

The album is available to pre-order via the album's Bandcamp link, and you can watch the new video for 'Saw You in the Roses' below right now.
