195: flypaper - Oh Well

The solo project of London's Rory Sear, flypaper is a project that quietly nestles in besides similarly lofi, somewhat scruffy singer-songwriters such as Greg Mendez, Bandcamp-era Alex G, even Hovvdy in their more knotty earlier work.
Sear himself call's his new single a "reflective song" and it certainly lingers within that frame, nudging its way into your brain with a sense of yearning for something you can never quite put your finger on. Sear also says the song is "looking at yourself or situations and maybe laughing at how tragic they can be or just coming to terms with that."
It's also excellent, the wilting, repetitive guitar line really digging in while Sear's voice carries an endearing wistfulness; a drifting nature that holds just enough weight to keep you chasing, intrigued at what else it has to say.
It's taken from a debut album – titled Forget The Rush – that has also just been announced, a nine-song collection on the ever-worthwhile PNKSLM label which also released a couple of flypaper EPs over the past year or so. The LP is released in November, and you already get the feeling that it'll find a home within the embers of Autumn, in the slow-drag of Winter. Check it out below and snag a pre-order via Bandcamp.
