It's somewhat fitting that the very first email we received after announcing 3/6/5 was regarding the release of Soft Power, a brand new album from NYC composer and guitarist Ezra Feinberg. That term, soft power, quite neatly wraps up the kind of music we like to share, and even the ethos of GFP as a whole; there is power in softness. Embrace sincerity. As the album's introduction says: "Soft Power, in whispering, speaks loudest".

Even more fittingly, the album itself is a beautiful thing indeed, a mesmerising collection of spiraling instrumental compositions that features guest appearances from GFP-fave Mary Lattimore, as well as David Moore (Bing & Ruth), experimental multi-instrumentalist Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, and improvisational master Robbie Lee.

“Much like everyday life, I wanted to convey these very plain, simple, tranquil, nearly quotidian aspects, but each piece contains this arc in which that form expands, is broken out of, so what starts out like a painting of flowers in a seaside motel turns into a riot of color and sound, or you feel slipped into a dream that feels like it could go on forever.”

Released today, with an exclusive look at the new video below, Soft Power's title track is a perfect summation of the sentiments expressed above, as well as the hypnotic – and often moving – nature of Feinberg's work.

Rolling forth for a full six minutes, the track is a colourful bending of notes and tones, an alluring daydream of sound that wraps itself around you like a spell, like shapes and natures you recognise but can't quite get a hold of. The accompanying video itself makes for a perfect accompaniment too, a gently-skewed film created and directed by Erren Franklin.

The full album arrives Friday 31 May on vinyl/digital, via Tonal Union (find it on Bandcamp here) - and you can check out the new song and video below right now.
