147: Benét - Wonder

Not only is Benét's new video a mini cinematic masterpiece in its own right, but the song itself is too; a hazy and gorgeous blend of varying moods, temperatures, and spoken-word snippets that crafts a whole character of its own.New single 'Wonder', released yesterday, is also tied to the news that Benét's new album Make ‘Em Laugh will be released this June, via Bayonet Records.

His voice alone is a thing of quiet captivation, but it takes on all manner of different shapes and shades when paired with the accompanying music, even in such a fleeting display - the song all wrapped up in just two-and-a-half minutes. Beginning in a light and breezy place, that woozy guitar that invites us in feeling beautifully summery, the tone soon shifts, the pointedness of Benét's lyrics juxtaposed with the subtle glimmer of his wonderful voice.

The audio snippets that punctuate the track in its second-half, are all clips of Benét's friends captured asking honest questions surrounding love and connection and woven into the mix. While such a task could veer towards over-sentimentality, here they lend the track a beating human heart; tender, thoughtful, funny, as all the most meaningful things tend to be.

It's a gem of a track, and a gem of an introduction; set a few minutes aside and step inside.
