103: aus - Another
Tokyo label FLAU are one of those gems from the underground scene that I likely would never have stumbled upon if it weren't for GFP's own journey. We first covered them way back in time, I think initially with a wonderful album from Cuushe, which had some well deserved cross-over success.
Patiently, expertly growing over time, the label consistently releases beautiful, experimental records from the burgeoning Japanese scene. The latest release on their roster comes from the aus:
After making a strong comeback with the release of the single Until Then on Seb Wildblood's all my thoughts label, and his first full-length album in 15 years, Everis, aus now unveils a brand-new album. Originally composed as demos for a film project, these tracks have been reimagined into a chamber music work, centered around aus’s piano and the strings of Kumi Takahara. The intricate interplay of the piano and violin merges with subtle textures of early 2000's electronics, creating a lush and vivid melodic landscape.
Intriguingly, the album features two impressive and intriguing guest-spots, with Julianna Barwick and Meg Baird both lending their voices and visions to a couple of the album's twelve songs.
Released at the end of November, the album is teased today with it's deft opener 'Another', a drifting introduction that layers spoken-word samples above ambient sounds and some beautiful piano.
You can pre-order and read more about the release over on Bandcamp - and check out the lead song below right now.
