A Day In The Life: Efterklang

A Day In The Life: Efterklang

Approaching 25 years as a band, Efterklang turned out some of their finest work to-date on last year's beautiful Things We Have In Common LP, a decadent, richly detailed collection of songs "about collective spirituality and belonging".

Chief among those new recordings were guest appearances from Mabe Fratti and Sønderjysk Pigekor, as well as 'Getting Reminders', a colourful collaboration with Beirut, all swooning and vocals and suitably romantic bursts of brass.

A few months down the line, both bands are set to play together in London this coming May, with a sold-out show on May 8th and a newly-added follow-up at Troxy on Friday May 9th (tickets via Dice here).

Ahead of those gigs, founding Efterklang member Rasmus Stolberg shares the soundtrack to his day with us; check it out below.

What's the first album you reach for in the quiet of the morning?

Fourth World Vol 1 by Jon Hassell & Brian Eno

My kid put it on the record player recently cause she liked the artwork and I was reminded how amazing this record is. So soothing and eerie as well.

What's the one song you play to wake you up and embrace the day ahead

Currently it is 'Life is' by Jessica Pratt. Love the classic vibes. It does not feel retrospectively to me - it just feels great and right.

What's your favourite song or album to drive to/accompany you on a road trip?

Probably a playlist but albums could be Harvest Moon by Neil Young or Kaputt by Destroyer. Kaputt always put me back to Big Sur and highway 1 in California. I had an epic and very romantic road trip there many years ago - and it's still is such a good album.

What's a song that sounds best to you as the sun begins to go down?

Spirit 2.0 by Sampha. I like this song any time of the day. It might be the most played song for me over the past 12 months.

What's your favourite song or album to dance to when the dark of night has arrived...

Pi Po Pa by Yosui Inoue is so infectious. I don’t know much about the artist actually. I just know that the song is an instant kick starter for joy and movement.

And finally. what's the last song you play in the late-night, as the day draws to a close?

Beige Barley by CTM ft Coco O and Ydegirl. There is an amazing scene in Copenhagen these days with artists like ML Buch, Astrid Sonne, Clarissa Connelly and many others. They are all brilliant and inspiring.

CTM has been around for years (almost as long as Efterklang!) and I feel she plays an important role in this current Copenhagen scene (or whatever it is). I always love listening to her songs and albums.
